Windows Installer error 2932 revisited

This been in the group before, but I could not find an
answer or solution googling through the messages...

I always get the "Internal error 2932" when trying to
install a .msi package. After pressing ok on that message,
a rollback of the installation occurs.

Always the same message:
"C:\Windows\Installer\{some-guid}\someapplication.exe , 1307"

I've done logged installations, only to find that it
seems to happen when creating the application icons,
judging by the real "someapplication.exe" file name.

For some reason the \Installer\{some-guid} folder
is read-only at this instant which would imply that
"someapplication.exe" cannot be copied there according
to the error message in the msi setup log...

I've also used the Dependency walker to profile the
installation and have added all missing depencencies,
but to no avail...

If I delete the files in the \Windows\installer folder
while the 2932 messagebox is there, at least the installation
fails and does not roll back...

It just doesn't want to work, neither for the Citrix
7.0 client, Zio bluetooth drivers nor anything else
that I need to install...

I am out of ideas now, seems like something is missing
from the Installer XPe component since the same msi files
work ok on a full XP Pro or 2000...

Hello Juhan,

I only saw this kind of problems with MSI installer when using removable
media.
Is your XPe build running on a standard Compact Flash card ?
Whats your Hardware configuration ?

Thanks Juergen.

I do indeed run on a CF-card...

I used a Toshiba industrial card, which is seen as a
"removable disk" by XPe... I changed to a SanDisk
industrial, which now comes marked as non-removable
directly from the factory..

Problem was solved...

Question to MS:
Why does the Windows Installer do like this?
