Windows installer "disappears"

When i try to install a program (any program) the "windows installer" run for
a few sec and then the "windows installer" window disappears.

What can cause such a problem? and how do i fix it without getting a
heartattack ?

I´ve tryed unreg and reinstall without any luck.

Installer runs for a few minutes by default,even though the window ends
it's still running.To verify,go to run,type:services.msc Scroll to
installer,run
the window in min.,then chk every so often.

I've got the same problem. Tried everything i can think of and it's
still not working. When i try to install things that use the MSI
installer, the install progress window just disappears but not always
at the same time. Really annoying and i really don't want to have to
re-install windows.

Help!! Anyone know how to cure this.

WinXP home running here on a P4 3Ghz machine.
