Windows Installer & Also MSN Messenger

Firstly, whenever my computer starts up, it brings up
Windows Installer saying "Preparing To Install..." Can
anyone tell me why it is doing this and how to fix it?
I've tried unchecking it from the startup sequence in the
settings of the computer, but it still flashes for a
couple seconds on every startup.
Secondly, I've been trying to upgrade my MSN Messenger
from 6.1 to 6.2. It downloads just fine and when I open
the setup, it says "MSN Messenger setup has failed with
error code: '1601'. Please go to the MSN Messenger
website and download the software from there."
So, I did, and it does the same thing. I've exited MSN
Messenger, put it in the recycle bin, saved it to my
computer then opening the setup, and just opening it from
the internet. Any help??
Please send replys to my email, thanks!

The MSI installer could be many things, usually a 'broken' uninstall. Try having a look at all the applications windows runs on startup and see if you have uninstalled anything recently that they rely on, also the setup must be finding the original MSI it installed from else it would ask you for it, so do a search for MSI files on your hard disk and either temporarily rename them all or move them elsewhere reboot and see which one it asks you to insert, that way you will at least know what it is it's doing.

As for MSN Msngr, try doing an uninstall from the control panel then downloading the client from messenger.msn.com and installing it again after a reboot.

Hope that helps
