hello

ive got a problem with windows firewall sp2. the ics service is stopped in
services.msc but when i try to start it, it says dependancies are a problem.
when i go to the dependancies tab, it wont let me select it, because an error
message comes up saying dependancies are not accessible (not those exact
words. ive tried to replicate what i did, but have forgotten the process!)

in the meantime im running zonealarm!

Windows Firewall service depends upon the following services:

1. Network Connections
2. Windows Management Instrumentation

Make sure that the above services are started and running.

WMI services depends upon Remote Procedure Call (RPC), which should be
started automatically.

Type this in Start, Run:

CMD /K SC QC WINMGMT

Copy the output, and include it in your reply.

Set the "Event log" service to Automatic (using services.msc applet), and
then reboot.

You're welcome.

I'm sorry you've been misinformed. Event log service is a crucial component

A semi-related question:

I, too, get the error message "not accessible" because the "class is not
registered" when I go to look at the services dependencies.

What does this mean? How do you register the "class"? Is it using regsvr.exe? If
so, what files need to be registered?

Thanks.

Ken,

Is the Windows Management Instrumentation service started?

Ramesh,

Yes, the WMI service was already started and on automatic. I just stopped it
and restarted it but that didn't seem to change the "not accessible" error
messange on the dependencies.

Ken,

Try these commands from Start/Run:

regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\wbem\wbemprox.dll
