ICS ?

Recently I built a new pc and was working on installing a home network, I got
a few suggestions as I couldn't get the pcs to see each other, one of the
suggestions I got was to disable ICS on both pc's and mark the service as
disabled.
well it worked also I had to disable Zonealarm OLD version 5, it was also
stopping them from seeing each other, the problem I'm having is that third
party software can't seem to find an internet connection, things like
spywareblaster, adaware, they keep telling me there is no internet
connection, even though IE works just fine, and I can surf the internet just
fine, what is the deal here???

Both pc's are using XP pro and I use a router/hub/firewall to share the DSL
connection between them. this is really odd, any suggestions??

If you are using a DSL/Cable Router then ICS should NOT be used.

| Thanks for the response, then what do you think is causing this issue??

Disable all software based desktop FireWall apps.

Start by pinging peer systems. Can System A ping System B and vice versa ?

yes each system can see each other and share files, without issue.
The problem is with various third party pieces of software, windows can get
to the update site just fine, it's just baffling to me!

In a Command Prompt, type; IPCONFIG /ALL

Compare all settings.

Each PC should be using DHCP and have the same information except a different IP node
address on the LAN.

If they are statically set, the sdtatic PCs should have the same information, manually set,
except a different IP node address on the LAN.

Each are set to dynamic IP info, and internet is set to automatically detect
IPconfig info. I will check them out further when I get home tonight.

I found out what was causing the problem, I needed to uninstall the old
version of zonealarm, once I did that, all software was able to gain access
to the internet to update, thanks for the advice.
