Windows hangs - XP Pro & iTunes 9

This morning I was prompted to install iTunes9. I selcted to do so, and
after about 30 minutes my system hung. When I rebooted, the windows slideing
bar came up, then nothing. I can boot in safe mode. Tried to restore to
yesterday. Cannot uninstall iTunes, as I can only boot in safe mode.

When I go to boot in normal mode after the sliding bar, the screen blanks
out. ABout 2 hours later the establishing network connections comes up. An
hour later it goes to loading system configuration. Have not got past there.

I would really like not to have to totally reinstall windows. I know I can
back everything up in safe mode, but does anyone have an idea on what I might
be able to do?

restore to a point before you installed itunes, I question whey you were
suddenly requested to install itunes out of the blue. did you hook up an mp3
player, or do something to generate this install request?

I have tried, to no luck. iTunes will porompt you every so often if you are
not on the latest version

What do you mean "you tried" to restore to yesterday? Were you able to
restore it (in Safe Mode)? If so, I'm surprised that didn't allow you to
successfully boot up in normal mode.

However, if you had a previous version of iTunes on prior to all this,
iTunes might be left in a mixed state with some incorrect or missing files,
and you may have to reinstall that iTunes version again. Before I did
that, though, I might consider redoing the restore operation again (to prior
to all this) just to be sure.

it makes a BIG difference if you state ITUNES prompted me to upgrade, rather
than install, as to what kind of response you get here.

A wise man has backups they can revert to, when things like this occur!

Find some way to remove itunes completely and then reinstall it.

The only date it will let me select is yesterday. When I reboot if I come up
i the safe mode, it says the restore was successful. I still cannot boot in
normal mode.

*IF* you come up in Safe Mode? What if you don't? I'm assuming it does
the same thing as before (i.e., the screen blanks out and all that).

Well, maybe someone else has an idea here, since if that System Restore
didn't solve it, I don't know what else to suggest.

Yes, I do come up in safe mode. I redid the restore and was able to connect
to the internet. Restarted and did not selet safe mode. Down for over 1
hour now, not sure what to do

Repair install of the operating system.

And never use that junkware again. I don't know how many times I have seen
posts here where iTunes fucocked a system. If you need music downloads,
download them from Amazon on CD. They ALWAYS work and NEVER "F" up your
system.

So I load the windows installaiton CD, boot and enter the Recovery Console.
I login with the admin password, then what do I need to do?
