Windows Firewall-unable to open

G

Guest

I use Zone-Alarm firewall, which disabled my windows firewall.I found an
option "Disable Windows Firewall" checked in Zone-alarm.I unchecked it so
that i could use windows firewall too.

Now,when i try to open windows firewall thru Security Center,it gives me an
error message "Due to an unidentifed problem,Windows can't display windows
firewall settings". How do i go about in turning this around?

Thanks in advance!

Download sharedaccess.reg (only for systems running Windows XP Service Pack 2) and save to Desktop. Then double-click the file to merge the contents to the registry. The Services entry will be created. Restart Windows (mandatory step, otherwise the following NETSH command will display an error message).

After restarting Windows, run this from Command Prompt (cmd.exe)

NETSH FIREWALL RESET

Launch firewall applet from Control Panel, and then configure your Windows Firewall settings.

If nothing helps, as a last-resort solution (before reinstalling Windows XP Service Pack 2), give these two commands a try. Click Start, Run and type:

rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection Ndi-Steelhead 132 %windir%\inf\netrass.inf

Restart Windows, and then run this command (from Command Prompt):

NETSH FIREWALL RESET

Attempt to start Firewall applet. Start the Windows Firewall service if prompted.

There's no need to run Windows Firewall when Zone Alarm is protecting
the system. In fact, the error message you're seeing is from running 2
software firewalls concurrently.
Just leave the Windows Firewall disabled, or, if you prefer it over Zone
Alarm, uninstall ZA.
If you're seeking more protection, than install a router with NAT even
if you're not on a network.
