Windows File Protection?

Guest

As of two days ago, I am suddenly getting this window pop up message
occassionally throughout my time when I log on...
"Windows File Protection...
Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by
unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the
original versions of these files.
Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM now."

I do, and within a split second this message diappears and nothing else
takes palce...
So, I then eject and remove the CD and minutes later I am getting this pop
up message again.
It gives me the option to RETRY...MORE INFO...or..CANCEL....
If I click the Retry button, it comes back a split second later...if I click
the cancel button it says:
"You chose not to restore the original versions of the files. This may
affect Windows stability. Are you sure you want to keep these unrecognized
file versions?
And gives me the choice of yes or no....
So, what happened and does anyone know why this is popping up suddenly and
what I can do to fix this issue?
Thank you..

Hello,

This is a typical sign of a spyware/malware or virus infection. We have seen
many spyware applications attempt to overwrite Windows components and you
will see that message as Windows recognizes the files have changed.

You may wish to try Super Ad Blocker with SUPERAntiSpyware:
http://www.superadblocker.com

Super Ad Blocker | SUPERAntiSpyware offers several unique features such as
using a system level driver to delete detected items, so pests do not come
back once detected and cleaned.

Super Ad Blocker offers a fully functional 15-day trial. You can scan and
clean your computer and then remove Super Ad Blocker if you do not wish to
keep it. We do appreciate when users support our development efforts by
purchasing the product :)

If that does not find and/or remove the spyware/adware on your machine, you
can submit a diagnostic and I will diagnose your machine for free and post
the results back to the group and update our rules with anything found:

software and are free to try the software, clean/fix your system, and then
uninstall.

Nick - I'm going to try your SuperAdBlocker on the next infected
client's machine. Can I download it in advance (with updates) like
Ad-aware, etc. or is the downloaded file itself time-limited?

Mike,

You can download ahead of time no problem. The 15-day trial does not count
until you actually install it on the machine.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please contact me
directly and I will assist you. The same goes if you feel there is semething
we are you detecting or removing - I can have you run a diagnostic and
update the rules immediately just as we do for our clients.
