Windows File Protection Error--During Disk Clean

G

Guest

Attempted to run disk clean and received the following window/error:

Windows File Protection

"Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by
unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore
the original version of these files.

Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD-Rom now

Retry More Information Cancel"

Issues: I am a MS Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers v2002 user;
not a "XP Home Edition" user

When I insert the Office XP Installation CD, I get an error message stating
that I have inserted the wrong CD.

I am unable to clear this error

Actions:
I have run my current McAfee anti virsus update, which should include the
latest definitions.
I have installed latest MS file updates, which are automatically
sent/downloaded.

When I backed up system files, I noticed I have some corrupted files, i.e.,
documents in machine/unrecognized language...files begin with 'tilde (swiggle
line)$$$XXX' and temp files that begin with 'tildeWRL###'

Any suggestions on how to resolve this error?

You have to insert your Windows XP CD not Office XP.

"You receive a "Windows File Protection: Files that are required for
windows to run properly have been replaced by unknown versions" error in
Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000"

S.Sengupta:

Clarification required...Since this appears to have occurred because of an
infection by VX2 malicious program variants, would I still need to insert my
Windows XP (Applications and Drivers) CD to restore the system? If so, am I
doing this after handling what is required to resolve the VX2 problem?

VX2 solution: What is an "Initpkl.dll" file?
I do not use Internet Explorer 6 as my email system, what is the impact of
installing this software onto my system to access the AntiSpyware?

Thank you. Rob
