Windows Fax Service & HP All In One K80

HELP--Did I do wrong ? Purchased a HP K80 (all in one) and followed there set-up. I am connected via USB. Went to printers/fax and added fax, (not in HP set-up) not knowing the outcome. Sent and received faxes fine, printed, scaned & copied fine. Did all from PC and HP K80, all was well. Then while working on PC a call came in, and here starts the problem--Fax Service picked up the call (voice call), this happened every time the phone rang. I have all connected to one phone line (HP set-up). NOW--Did I do wrong ?--I went to add/remove Windows programs and "unchecked" fax service, this stoped the phone answering problem. Sending a fax from the HP K80 or the PC's HP software is O.K., haven't yet had a fax sent to me, but I think it will be O.K. also. One other note my PC modem has a fax send/receive function. Does "unchecking" fax service disable that modem function ? I would think so. THANKS for any help anyone can give me. :

XP Fax does not have distinctive ring. It will answer all calls.
Unchecking XP Fax service does not disable modem. It only uninstalls Fax
service...
