windows fax and picture viewer

everything seems to have ground to a halt ,when i open
picture folders for editing none of the tools seem to
work ,and when i try to close a file nothing hapens for a
lond time and i get the message , fax and picture viewer
not responding. then the whole system comes to a halt and
i have difficulty closing my computer down

Do you happen to have Adobe PhotoShop or
Elements installed?

If you do...right click on a .jpg file and choose
Properties. Click the Photoshop Image tab
and uncheck the "Generate Thumbnails" button,
then click OK.
