Where's the setting in Windows Explorer to turn off
folders being expanded in the left half screen when only
clicked once. Double clicking is fine to expand the
folder to view subdirectories, but not one click.

Folder Options> View, uncheck box for Simple Folder View.

May want to check Folder Options> General as well to be sure you're setup
for double click and not single click.

Hi,

Click on Tools, select Folder Options.
Switch to the View tab in the Folder Options dialog
Under Advanced Settings uncheck the checkbox "Display simple folder view in
Explorer's Folders list"
