Hi... I have been chasing the same or a similar problem for a month. The
following is my situation... so... if yours is the same this is what works
for me. Don't know why it works.. it just does
Always fails....
a. Bootup {same as 1. below}
b. Left double-mouse click "My Computer" {same as 2. below}
c. Right mouse click drive "C" - hour glass appears briefly, screen flickers
off/on, get message asking if I want to send error report, regardless of
answer then, screen becomes normal again... except all icons in process task
bar at bottom of screen are gone except for "Safely Remove Hardware"
"McAfee" and "Windows Messenger" ( I have verified however that all
processes are still running even though icons are missing on screen.)
d. BUT IF, even after this failure, one then again does step 3., 4.,
and 5. above everything again works normal except icons never reappear.
That is, one can now do a "Properties on drive "C" successfully.
Always works correctly...
1. Bootup
2. Left double-mouse click "My Computer"
3. Right mouse click any drive EXCEPT "C"
4. Right mouse click "Properties" - and display acts normal giving
Properties window
5. Close window and then right mouse click drive "C" - display normal and
get Properties window
