windows explorer problems

Cael

Here I am looking for your help. One of the partition disks' folder having
problems. The folder contains avi files and mp3 files formats. Whenever I
click on this folder it longer time than the other folder then I got the
following messages:

"Windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on
might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.

We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Windows
Explorer. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

Simultanously I get this following message too:

"To help protect your computer, windows has closed this program.

Name: Windows Explorer

Publisher: Microsoft Corporation"

The OS is Windows XP Pro SP 2 with the latest updates, CPU AMD Athlon 64
3500+ 1GB RAM, VDO RAM 128 and more than 50 GB free hard disk. I did anti
virus and anti spyware scan several times but found nothing. Furthermore one
of the external hard disk 40GB also having problems after I stored some avi
and mp3 files, first it the system could not recognize the disk, and then
after one day it recognized again but it says it needs format, when I tried
to format however I cannot finish the formation. I lost all the files and
unable to use the disk again.

Many hours I have been browsing the google to get some help but still I'm
not able to fix it. Please help me.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Ceal

Cael, did you disconnect the 40G hard drive from your
system? Have you performed a disk check on the drive with the problem
folder? Using NTFS?

R

Ron Badour

Are the same .mp3 and .avi files involved with both drives? If so, can you
dump the files to a CD and then remove them from your hard drive to see if
Explorer starts working correctly?

C

Cael

I disconnected the 40G hard drive and there is no way to do disk check now
because it starts and at the end it is not responding. It is NTFS.

Cael

Hello Ron Badour,

Thank you for the advice. All the avi and mp3 files are on the partitioned
disk. I copied one of the avi files with folder to Drive C (My Documents)
and tried to open the folder and the file then I got the same problems.
Without those files I do not have such type of problems. I will try remove
the problematic files and check the sytem without them again.

Regards,

Cael

What is your anti-virus programme? Is it loading on starting your
computer as it should do?

What are your anti-spyware arrangements?

I use zonealarm security suite v.6 and Adaware 2007 too. The avi and mp3
files I have collected from my friends are the root causes of these
problems, I think. I am able to open the files from WMP without any problems
but if I opened the drive those file located then I got the error messages.
Just now I'm thinking to change the file format however I have no idea how
much it can be helpful.

C

Cael

I found the problematic avi files. I have copied one file at a time to
another drive's new folder and closed the folder and then opened it again
accordingly some of the avi files has problems.

What is the status of Kapersky on your computer. One of the error
