Windows Explorer problems

Lately I have been having a serious problem every time I close Windows
Explorer. Within a minute of closing the Windows Explorer window using
either the X in the upper right corner or clicking on file > close I receive
a message that says, "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It then asks if I want to
report this to Microsoft. I have successfully sent the report to Microsoft
over 100 times in the past few weeks and yet it is still happening. Now I
know that Microsoft will not contact me directly to fix this problem, so
don't start flaming that part of my post. All I am lokoing for is a solution
to this annoying problem...

Many Thanks,
~John

The report to Microsoft doesn't usually generate a response. Microsoft
uses the information to help diagnose problems with their software.

You need to figure out why you're seeing the message. Malware infection
is always a possibility. You can also check Event Viewer for more
details on the problem. Can you think of anything you might have done to
cause this problem?

Thanks for you quick response

I checked the event log and this is what I found listed there regarding
Windows Explorer:
Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.5512, faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x4003d0a8.

I have done nothing recently to my computer that could cause this error. I
have not downloaded and/or installed any software to this machine in months.
I have had no hardware or software problems in 6 months. This problem
started about 3 weeks ago and even occurs if I start the machine in Safe
mode.

Thanks for the quick response. I am running the sfc /scannow right now, I
will report back if it fixed it.
