When trying to delete files using Windows Explorer or My Computer, I get the
error message: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close, etc." The problem started after I deleted a number of files using
ACDSee Pro 2.5. It took a long time, but worked. I tried Safe Mode but get
the error message as soon as I highlight a file.
I run XP Pro SP3 on a ThinkPad X61s.
I'd be very grateful for any help.

Hi Bob:
I've now tried CHKDSK /F and unfortunately it didn't help, but thanks for
your idea!

Dear BillW50:
I hope I can get help to fix problem that has occurred. If not, your idea
seems like a good choice. Thanks a lot!

Did it report any issues? I am concerned that the "It took a long time"
the last time indicated there is a hard drive problem.

No, it didn't reports any problems.

Hi Bob I:
Thank you so much for keeping at it! I've installed FileMenu Tools, but
when I rightclick a file (to bring up The Shredder) I get the error message.
Do you think that explorer.exe has somehow become corrupt? If so, can it be
repaired? Or do I have to reinstall XP?

Unfortunately, running the System File Checker didn't solve the problem. I
wonder if you have more ideas up your sleeve?

Under Application Error I selected these, hoping that they are what you're
looking for. For these particular points of time there were no other events.
Thanks a lot!

I've just found out that Powerdesk 7 WILL delete all files and folders. Does
this make sense?
Kind regards,
EJensen

I guess if Powerdesk 7 will delete them for you, that is good, but is
rather curious as to what got hosed in the file system that it tossing
explorer into a tizzy.

ACDSee's helpful support desk suggested that PowerDesk Pro 7 might be
conflicting with Windows and ACDSee, so I uninstalled PowerDesk - and now all
problems have vanished! I've written to Avanquest for a fix, but in the
meantime it's great to have an explanation, and I can live without Powerdesk,
although it has a few useful features.

Thank you so much for bearing with me and teaching me many interesting and
useful things along the way!

Kind regards,
EJensen

Thanks for posting the additional info, it will help with any other
folks who stumble across this issue.
