Windows Explorer slow to open

Recently my Windows Explorer has become slow to open (about 10 seconds when
it used to be nearly instant).

I typically use Windows-E to open the window or Windows-R to open the Run
command and then enter the name of the folder I want opened.

But the slowness is causing me some concern. I have no network drives
mapped.

What else can I be looking for to find out what's slowing it down?

Thank you.

Make sure your machine is clean from parasites. Check your hard drive is not
close to been full. Check that you have enough memory and that you don't
have too many open folder and programs running at the same time. Check your
event log for any errors or warnings. De-fragment your drive. Run chkdsk /f
on your drive to check for errors on your drive. Start >Run type chkdsk /f
choose yes. restart your computer.

Well hallelujah!! Just running the chkdsk /f seems to have done the trick.
Drive is half full. I'll run the defrag next, but I'm already pretty happy.

THANK YOU!!!
