Am trying to do a file search in windows explorer. When I
click the 'search' button, I get the error message that
windows explorer has encountered an error and needs to
close. This just started yesterday. Anybody know how I
can fix? I don't have XP CD. Came loaded on computer.
Thanks.

I have the same problem and here is what I found... this
is not the Qcbar hitchhiker as outlined in MS Support.
Post reply if you find a fix.

This is actually due to a explorer.exe problem associated with action going
on (such as clicking on a folder in explorer, etc.) that causes it to fail
when trying to write to memory.

I have found this to be a problem in many systems that have been updated to
XP SP1, regardless of hardware configuration. You are experiencing the
explorer.exe shutting down and then initializing again. You may also see in
the event log that memory could not be written to a certain memory address.

It took me about six months looking for and asking for remedies and I have
found that a forthcoming patch in the SP 2 answered my delimma. Click on
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329692&Product=winxp
#appliesto, scroll down and read what this patch does and click Duser.dll to
download the patch. You won't need the XP CD when you install the patch.
