Windows Explorer Runtime Error

Whenever I open the Windows Explorer I get an error message - "MSVC Runtime
Error". There is a problem with the Windows Media Player also - it says "Some
internal error occurred" and doesnt open up. The operating system is "Windows
XP Home Edition" on a Toshiba Laptop. I did have some spyware infections
which have been cleaned up after running a set of anti-spyware software. Not
sure if something that was deleted as part of the removal process has caused
this. Please advise.
