Runtime Error R6025 in Explorer.EXE when a 2nd Explorer window is

I am running Windows XP Professional Sp2. When I open a second Explorer
window ( Not Internet Explorer) I receive the following error message:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE
R6025
- pure virtual function call

When I click OK on the error message my 1st open explorer window disappeared
along with the START bar. After 30 second the START bar returns. This error
also occures when the second window is a My Computer, or a Control Panel
item. My current work around is to use Internet Explorer as my file
management system. I would like to know if there is a fix other than
reinstalling Windows XP Pro? Thanks.
