Windows Explorer opens a new Windows

Julie

I do not know what happened to my original post so I am reposting.

When ever I double-click folder in Windows Explorer with the Folder List
show on the left, a new Windows Explorer Window opens. When the Folder List
on the left is not shown this does not happen. I do not want to open new
windows when I double-click a Folder.

I have set NOT to open a new window for each folder in the Folder Options.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Julie,

I had this problem. Open up your folder options dialog:
1) start->run->control folders

2) Here, click on the file types tab. You can see there are extension
entries for file folder and folder.

3) Locate and select the Folder file type.

4) Click on "advanced" button to expose the details

5) What you see are a list of actions that are taken when you double-click
on the folder type. The bold option is the choice. There are two choices:
Explore and Open. Click the unbold one and then "set default". Odds are
your bolded choice is "open" rather than explore.

This doesn't solve it, just reverses the logic. If you have the Folders
List panel shown, you will not get a new window each time. However, if you
have the Folders List hidden, it will.

I don't like the folders list and mine had this problem unless I had the
folders list showing, so I selected "open" and Set Default.
