Recently updated my graphics driver (ATI Radeon) now every time I log on, a
windows explorer box opens on the screen, pointing to the support folder of
the radeon install, pretty annoying. I have looked the start-up folder &
looke din system start up can't finfd anything related that I can remove

Any clues welcome please

My first suspicion would be that problem with the Installer they just fixed.
I would get the update, then uninstall and reinstall the radeon stuff.

You receive an access violation error and the system may appear to become
unresponsive when you try to install an update from Windows Update or from
Microsoft Update: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/927891/en-us

Mark, the update for the driver was not from microsoft it was direct from
Packard Bell
I have tried system restore prior to the driver install but the system still
starts with the explorer box openeing even though the software is not
present!

I have re-installed & de-installed the driver twice, but the explorer box
still opens when logging in.

Any ideas

Hi mal,
Try to remove it from the start up by going here:
C:\Documents and Settings\ User\Programs\StartUp =

Open a run command and type in:
regedit.exe click [OK] locate this Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run = look in
the right and clear the entry for it.

Try to contact DELL support for this issue they may have a fix.
HTH.

Got some info from another forum, turns out that the old drivers had not
de-installed correctly & the system was trying to run old & new together.
Removed ALL driver info & re-installed the new driver & issue was corrected.

thanks
