Windows Explorer - lost single window browsing.

G

On Windows XP SP2; after some new program Installs (iTunes I think was
the culprit), I lost the ability to have drill down selection of file
folders in explorer open in the same window. This is basically the
"Browse Folders/Open in same window" option, but it doesn't work now.

I went into associations under Explorer/tools/FileTypes, and find
Folder, and File Folder.
Only Folder (not FileFolder) has open as an option to make open default
in the FileTypes association window, and it is selected. FileFolders do
also show open as the default when right-clicked.

[Apparently (from Registry) a Directory is a FileFolder. So what is a
Folder?]

Browsing with single pane explorer does open in same window, but if in
explorer mode(two pane, directory and contents) mode, then double
clicks on the right pane open a new window. This is what I want to
remedy, back to same window behavior.

So,
1) How do I recover same window explorer browsing.
2) What is the difference between Folder, and File folder in file
types/
In the Registry there only seems to be one type with these
associations: Directory.

Thanks,
Gregory Guthrie
