Windows Explorer Keeps on Crashing When Closing (XP Pro SP2 w/latest updates)

Holy Moses

When I try to close my windows explorer, for some reason, it crashes
often. But _only_ when there are no other apps opened on the desktop.
It will still crash when I close Windows Explorer, no apps open on the
desktop but apps running in the background (apps minized to the system
tray).

And I can't seem to locate a single cause or a reason for this. It
does not crash every single time I close it, but it certainly happens
much more than not.

It could have been left open for hours and not have accessed it while
I'm working with other apps. Then when I try to close the windows
Explorer, it will crash giving the error message.

Anybody have any idea as to what might be causing this? I had not
installed any new hardware or software around the time this problem
began. Thanks for your time and courtesy.

Hi, can you do me a big big favour please with grease on it...

Check your Windows - Windows32 - Macromedia folder and tell me if there is
any Flash Player 6 files in there? They should be Version 9. When I cleaned
out that folder and updated with Adobe properly I have experience no further
symptoms people here have been describing.

Have you looked at the Warning and Error Reports in the System and
Application logs in Event Viewer?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
