Hi, I've got Windows XP, Home edition, SP2. I'm running a Sony Vaio, 1.7
GHz, 1G RAM computer. Over the past few months, my Windows Explorer has
become very sluggish. For example, if I delete a file, I may have a dialog
box telling me that the file's being deleted - it may sit there for a full
minute or longer.
If I double-click on a file to run the associated program, I may have to
wait two or three minutes for the program to come up. In the meantime,
Windows Explorer becomes "busy" and won't respond to further input. It's
OK once the program comes up.
I have repeatedly checked for viruses, spyware, and other malware, even
going as far as checking my network traffic with a packet sniffer to make
sure nothing is being sent out. I have defragged the hard drive and
cleaned up the registry.
Does anyone know what the problem is, and (more useful), what the solution
is? This is driving me nuts.
