Very Very slow system

I think my computer has been completely screwd up.
Kids installing all sorts of games and experimenting with the system, it has
become extremely unstable with problems like:
1. Very very slow
2. Frequent " Program not responding error" etc.
I have celeron 1.7 GHz with 128MB RAM and XP SP1. With the same config, it
was working fine previously. Even now, it is allright with standalone
programs like accounting package. But with Internet explorer it becomes very
unstable.
I thought problem was with OS, so I tried installing XP SP2, but in vain.
The message " Third party kernel" appears when i try to reinstall XP.
Could sb pl help

Do you run an anti-virus program? Do you keep it up to date?

Do you run at least two anti-spyware programs? Are they kept up to
date.

Your symptoms sound very much like you are infested with malware.
