WINDOWS EXPLORER HELP

Rebelr

When I click on Windows Explorer, my root directory (My
Documents) appears and when I hit the next file up button
or click My Computer - a flashlight comes on the screen
and searches for a long time and sometimes all my drives
come up (dvd, DVD/cd-rw, C, A). The same thing happens
when I'm online and try to download something, in the
download manager when I click up trying to get to my c
drive and my folders to file the download in, the
flashlight appears and most times it doesn't come up. This
is all very recent. The two things I did was install a new
printer (which works fine) and I tried (using microsofts
knowlege base articles) to change my root directory to the
c drive. I think that's where it messed up. Since I've
tried to restore to a different day (didn't work) and then
was told to repair XP by reinstalling windows files
(didn't work). I think it has something to do with the
codes in the target and start in section under properties
for My Computer but I can't find anything on Microsoft
word database to help me with this - anyone know? If you
go into programs/accessories/windows explorer and right
click it to properties - it will tell you the default
info - but since I changed it I have no idea what the
right formula is OR if that really is the problem to begin
with.

Are there any related system errors reported in Event Viewer? Does Event Viewer offer any clues as to the cause?

Make a note of the precise text of any error message. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID: and Source Description are important.
