I am having a problem with an external drive. Whenever I try to open it (G
with the "thumbnail" view, it loads, but then the "Windows Explorer has
encountered..." message pops up, and then my desktop screen disappears for
about 10 seconds, then reloads. This only happens when I open this drive with
a thumbnail view, so I open it in a "tile, "icon", or "list" view. However,
as soon as I switch to the "thumbnail" view, I get the same error message.
Also, when I viewed what will be sent in the error log, this is what I see as
the "problem child":
AppName: explorer.exe Appver: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName:
Mpegsplitter.ax
Mod.Ver 1.0.0.4 Offset: 000270ab
Also, I tried to just delete the file, but was met with an "Access Denied"
window because apparently the file was being used. This is what I have under
the hood:
HP Pavilion 763n (old, but very good!)
Intel P4 (2.53GHZ)
XP Home
1 Gig of RAM
160 GB HD
160GB External HD (where the problem lies!)
P.S.
This particular file is part of a downloaded package called
"ESSENTIALS CODEC PACK" Is it malware? I have scanned the folder at great
lengths with Norton AntiVirus, WebRoot SpySweeper, and some other smaller
programs that I have with no warnings of any kind. Or... God forbid... is it
something else. PLEASE HELP!!
