I am looking for a program that will enable me to write descriptions for
files in explorer.

For example I may have a documentary video and I would like to add
some notes about what's it about so I will remember after some time.

I would like this to be integrated in windows explorer and the notes to be
able to be visible somehow either by hovering the cursor on top of the file
or some other way.

Also I would like this information I would like to backup somehow in case I
have to format so I wont lose all the descriptions.

Does anyone know of such a program???

Are you using XP?

If so, right click on the file, select Properties and go to the Summary
tab.

Here you can enter a comment.

In Explorer, go to View...choose details and check the comments box.

Make sure Explorer is set to show details and voila you have a column
of comments.

As far as backing up these comments, they are saved as part of the
file, so back up the file and the comment is backed up, too.

Yes... thanks but...

Oppsss a problem..

in some files it says SUMMARY PROPERTIES ARE UNABAILABLE FOR THE SELECTED
SOURCE(S)

found this discussion on the topic

I cannot find a way to fix this.. and it appears on all avi files

any ideas?

Can't say why .avi files do this but if you zip the files up into
either a .zip or .cab file, the Summary option becomes available
and you ca enter comments.

Yeah, they've done some pretty bad shit, dude. You'll have to wait until
the preliminary hearing to see if the PD can talk the judge into reducing
their bail.

There was some discussion of adding comments/descriptions to files a
few months ago in a.c.freeware. I'd recommend goind to
groups.google.com and searching a.c.freeware with comment* or
description* as keywords. Some recommended were standalone apps, others
were extensions to Explorer that added an extra comment/description
column. Sorry, can't remember the names at present.
