Windows Explorer crashes any time I select a file

Any time I open Windows Explorer (WXP Pro) and select a file to work with, I
get a message: "Explorer has encountered an unexpected error and must close.
Please contact your system administrator." Then another window pops up:
"Windows Explorer must close. Please restart your computer."

Restarting doesn't help. There is no error number or any explanation given
as to what the problem is. ???

Sound like you need to do a system restore back to a time before the problem
started. Have you recently installed any new software.???

Is this problem limited to a specific file? or just any old file? I've seen
something that sounds similar with specific files. The problem was being
caused by some kind of glitch with McAfee antivirus and the specific dat
file it was using. As soon as a new dat file was released, the problem with
that file cleared up. Bizarre, but sometimes antivirus software is a double
edged sword.

If the problem occurs when you select any file at all, then I'd say you
probably need to do a rollback to a system restore point prior to when the
problem started.
