Windows Explorer Acting Up

Recently, I've been trying to access folders that contain pictures taken with
my camera. Ok, folders that only hold pictures, open fine. The files open and
the folder opens. But, when I try to access a folder that contains not only
my pictures but also my video clips, I get the following error everytime:

""Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on
might be lost.
For more information about this error, click here.""

Now, this is getting really annoying because, I can theoretically say that
the pictures in these folders are lost.

I e-mailed Micosoft Support but they sent me this "Self-Help" thing that
didn't help. The 2nd option given was this group. Please, oh please. Can
someone help me?

Thanks.

Sounds like IE could be corrupted. I'd try reinstalling it.

So, I tried re-installing IE but it only gave me a "you have an up-to-date
version." So, I stopped trying. What I ended up doing was going to "Safe
Mode" and getting the pictures off my computer. Here, is where I noticed my
potential problem. I had downloaded "Media Player Classic" because lots of my
friends recommended it as a "small and reliable" media player. Well, in "Safe
mode", the folder giving me problems opened fine. I opened up all the folders
and opened the pictures and no problem. But, the second I tried opening one
of my movie files, it said Media Player had the error that made me "restart."
So, once I restarted, I burned the files on to CD and returned to regular
mode. Here, I uninstalled Media Player, and just like that, everything was
back to normal. Don't get me wrong, Media Player Classic was great, it just
recently decided to act up. Thank you for your help and time.

About the thumbnails, maybe it's just me being computer-retarded but I
couldn't change the thumbnail settings. I know that to do this, you must open
the folder you want to change. Unfortunately, the second the folder tried
opening, it would give me the error and make me restart.

FYI

Are you using NAV or SAV?

I just got the following from symantec chat line regarding this same issue
that we are having on 6 machines.

Our error various between both explorer and iexplorer must close.

read this from our chat tech session at symantec:

Hemantha(Fri Sep 14 00:42:16 EDT 2007)>

yes, this is a problem that we have seen recently. There is a DLL file of
Norton associated with the Internet Explorer settings, this causes the error
and the Internet Explorer crashes and closes.

Hemantha(Fri Sep 14 00:47:02 EDT 2007)>

Yes, that problem can be resolved by 1 ,By disabling or Unchecking the
Norton Product protection under the Miscellanous option 2,Closing all the
Internet Explorer windows, 3, search for hidden files and folder for nppw.dll
files and remove them, 4 , Run LiveUpdate and 5, Restart the computer the
issue would be fixed.

Best regards,
Ben
