Windows Drivers ?

Guest

I have just replaced my single AMD processor with an AMD X64 dual core. Then
ran windows update (Windows XP professional 32 bit version) and installed
recommended upgrades. I'm now getting blue screens which appear to be due to
USB drivers. Motherboard is ASUS A8V-VM (socket 939).
Should I be using 32 bit or 64 bit drivers ?

Greatful for any help !

What is the lowest common denominator?
You installed the 32-bit version of Windows, that's what.

You should be using 64 bit drivers. But you need to use them with the 64
bit version of Windows.

If you are running a 32 bit version of XP, then you should be using *only*
32 bit drivers.

You need to use the drivers that match your version of Windows. In
your case, you are running 32-bit Windows, so you need 32-bit drivers.

Windows XP Pro (32Bit) usually build an unique "key" for the Product
Activation. I am not sure but I would suspect that changing the CPUs
"may" cause the key to change. The only "true" method of getting XP
to re-do this "key" is to re-install XP. Sometimes a "repair" re-
install on top of the installed version can work.

As for the drivers, use the 64Bit one ONLY when using XP 64 bit.

Changing the processor for a different type counts as two changes for
reactivation purposes (processor type and processor serial number).
Reactivation trips after four changes (seven if you have a network card -
though changing the network card counts as three changes).
