Well mature system with all updates suddenly on boot-up gives an
error window:
Windows - Drive Not Ready
Exception Processing Message c00000a3 Parameters [here follows 3
8-digit hex numbers]

No joy in knowledge base. Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks, don

Go to the wewsite of the harddrive's manufacturer
and get their diagnostic utility and run it.

Could very well be a drive problem

OK but for what drive? All of my hard drives seem OK. The message
pops up about midway through the user logon process,

Probably a software tries to access a cardreader or DVD drive
without a media.
Get the SysInternals ProcessExplorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Drag its bullseye over the error message. The ProcessExplorer
then focuses the owner process in its process list. Maybe
find a setting in the software which shows the message.

I may have mis-understood your question..
I did not realize that your OS was loading correctly and that your query
concerned one error message.
So there must be some app that's trying to load at starup
that does not exist
