Windows drawn by "waves" on the screen

On GA-8SIMLH (Gigabyte Technology Co.) motherboard something happened with
the graphic programs - they work slowly. When you move a window, it is drawn
by "waves" on the screen.

The message "No ATI graphics is installed, or the ATI driver is not
functioning properly" appears at computer startup.

The yellow "?" is near the SiS Accelerated Graphics Port position in Device
Manager and in Properties there is the message "Windows cannot start this
hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is
incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)" in Properties.

When I try to install drivers (from the Gigabyte site), I receive the
message: "The system cannot recognize the device. Please make sure that the
device is configured correctly, and then run Setup again."

Registry cleaning by some programs did not fix the problem.

How can I correct this?

Thank you

It looks like you must have two graphics cards as you have mentioned both
ATI and SiS

My guess is that you are not using your onboard video and have either and
AGP or PCI video card...

So you are probably trying to install the wrong video card drivers.

Confirm which video card you are actually using and get the drivers for that
one.

Thought you did not give enough info...my guess is the card you are trying
to use is the ATI
and you need to go the their website for the driver

Your video is no longer accelerated, because some driver is not working.
This is your motherboard and its support page.

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products...herboard&ProductID=2303&ProductName=GA-8SIMLH

Your motherboard has an SIS651 Northbridge with built-in video. That
is what drives the VGA connector in the I/O plate area of the motherboard.
To use the built-in video, you'd use

Chipset driver (enumerates system buses properly)
SIS651 VGA driver
DirectX

The board also lists an AGP 4x capable slot. So the ATI video card
could be plugged in there.

To use the ATI video card

Chipset driver (identifies the AGP bus - SISAGPX.SYS file ?)
ATI video card driver (may bundle .NET for the control panel and some version of DirectX)
DirectX

Since the ATI driver is complaining, it sounds like
there is a problem with the chipset driver.

When you look in the Device Manager, are there any
"unknown devices" or things with errors showing ?

If you look in Device Manager, in the "System" section,
there should be an AGP entry.

Dear Paul, thank you for your response.

"If you look in Device Manager, in the "System" section, there should be an
AGP entry." - No, there is no AGP entry there.

"When you look in the Device Manager, are there any "unknown devices" or
things with errors showing?" - No, there is only one devoce with yellow
"?" - SiS Accelerated Graphics Port.

"Since the ATI driver is complaining, it sounds like there is a problem with
the chipset driver." - I download the
motherboard_driver_vga_sis_661fx_651.exe from the Gigabyte site and tried to
install it. But I received the message: "The system cannot recognize the
device. Please make sure that the device is configured correctly, and then
run Setup again."

I tried to act through Add Hardware (Control Panel). I asked Show All
Devices and found the AMD-8151 Hyper Transport(tm) AGP3.0 Graphics Tunnel.
It was only one line with AGP. I clicked Next but there was a full crash of
my computer after Restart. (I restore my system from image.)

I found 9 lines of the ATI Technologies, Inc. there, but I cannot find which
line to try.

Where can I find this?

Thank you

So "SiS Accelerated Graphics Port" is your AGP interface. And it
has a problem. Check the properties and see what error number
it is reporting. Perhaps someone else can help you with that.

To repair it, you do not want motherboard_driver_vga_sis_661fx_651.exe.
That is the VGA driver. That is the next level up of software. And
I thought you were using an ATI graphics card.

You also do not want to add AMD-8151 - it has nothing to do with your hardware, at all.

The AGP driver is in the "Chipset" section of the Gigabyte downloads here.
Reinstalling it, won't necessarily fix it, depending on what the real problem
is. But once you post the error number reported by Device Manager
for the malfunctioning "SiS Accelerated Graphics Port", someone
else may have a suggestion on how to fix it.

Also, if you make further postings, it might help slightly, to
mention what video card you are actually using, ATI brand or otherwise.
Verify that the monitor is plugged into that card (in other words,
that your video is actually coming through an ATI video card, or
whatever card is in fact being used).

I think SIS has a utility, called "AGPUtil.exe", which can be
used to set some of the properties of the SIS AGP slot. Whether
your problem is registry related or not, may become clearer when
you post the error number.

For all who are interested:
I corrected my system by WinXP reinstallation in repair mode (on top
reinstallation).
Thank you
