After installing automatic updates, I keep getting the error "Application
falied to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows Defender Service
to stop, ...Restart or search Help and Support"

How can I fix this?

Check, Is your date and time current?

At the time of the update, it wasn't. I noticed it shortly after the install
and put it to the right time & date.

Control panel to go to Admin tools click services an scroll down to windows
defender. it will probable be diabled, enable it also enable Windows Driver
Foundation. Make sure you click apply. This should take care of it

Hi all of you with this Windows Defender error message problem " faild to
initialise 0x800106ba" ?
This is how I solved it for me.

Go to microsoft's uk web site.
Go to downloads.
Download the latest Windows Defender
As it downloads, it will remove the old programe and install the latest copy.
Follow the prompts from here.

Hello Kenton,

When I tried to download windows defender form the UK and US sites they both
say that Windows defender is already installed and it is not automatically
removed. I am also having trouble manually removing it when I go to the
uninstall program list, none of my windows programs are listed. Can you
please help me?

Hello Tiff;

If your running the Vista Operating System, Windows Defender is an integral
part of that OS and can not generally therefore be removed without breaking
Vista. You can however disable it:
