Like everyone else in this post group, I too am having the same problem of
which i have tried everything to rectify. I have uninstalled and reinstalled
net framework 2,windows defender and onecare live. Onecare live tells me to
install windows defender, windows defender then tells me its not been updated
for 55 days, i click on check for updates and get the following message
"Windows Defender was unable to complete the update:0x8007064c. The
installation source for the product is not available. Verify that the source
exists and that you can access it."
Someone please help all of us correct this problem.

This is what I would recommend:

download the Windows Installer cleanup tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;290301

Install it, then go to Start, all programs, and run it. It will present a
list of installed applications. See whether
"Windows Defender Signatures" are listed. If so, highlight that entry, and
hit remove.

Then go to Windows Update, do an express scan, and apply all offered
updates.

When you first install Windows Defender it says it has not been updated for
55 days (or whatever the clock has reached). It looks to me as if ths means
it has not been updated AT ALL and has no spyware definitions.

The error message seems to mean the web site it is trying to download from
is unavailable. I suggest you try again after a few hours before taking
other measures.

Have no idea how this happened since I hadn't downloaded anything from
Windows Update. Maybe the previous Signature updates that I downloaded were
used.
Anyway 3/22 signature files appear to be the most recent.

You are in good shape--I think that the update came in via autoupdate (which
is the mechanism used within the program)--or, perhaps, simply removing the
"stuck" update, allowed files already in place on your machine to complete
the update properly.

I tried what Bill Sanderson suggested. I downloaded Windows Installer Clean
up Tool and ran it selected Windows Defender Signatures and deleted them.
Then I ran Windows Update and it founf no new updates. Si then I ran Updates
from within Defender, within Help Options, About Defender, then down on the
bottom, Check for Updates. That did it.

Thanks again,
Gene
