When i turned on my computer this morning, the windows defender icon popped
up to say my computer was out of date. So i clicked on automatically upate,
but it wont work. The error code 0x80240029 comes up saying that the programe
cant check for definition updates. I cant find this error code on the widows
help website. it says its there, but i cant find it. Does anyone know how to
resolve this problem? Thanks for your time

Is your computer in a networked environment where Windows Update is enabled?
We had to set our WSUS to include those Windows Defender updates.

Hi Steve

I am not sure about that. i am a home user and my husbands commpter is
connected to the same netword, so does that make us a networked environment?
excuse my ignorance!) Anyway, the good news is that I resolved the problem
having found other people with the same problem online. They resolved it by
turning windows auto updates off temporarily, manualy downloading updates (of
which 1 out of 3 were the dimensions needed for windows defender) That seems
to have worked, but how often I am going to have to do that, i dont know.
Thanks for your help.

This was a common problem withthe Beta version. Try the following:
1. Remove the current signature file. To do this, click Start, click
Run, type Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}, and then
click OK.
2. Open Windows Defender. To do this, click Start, click Programs, and
then click Windows Defender.
3. Check for new definitions. To do this, click the Help options arrow
next to the Windows Defender Help icon, click About Windows Defender,
and then click Check for Updates.

Hope it works.
Andy.
