WINDOWS DEFENDER (OS - Windows XP Home SP2 Fully Up To Date)

Has anyone come across this problem?

I have 'options' set to carry out a quick scan daily. Windows Defender (WD)
duly scans and tells me 'no unwanted or harmful software is detected'.

Today, I chose to run a full scan manually. When the scan reached System
Volume Information, WD hung and would continue no further. The 'ticker bar'
(or whatever you call it) was still scrolling, but the file count was static.
I left it in this state for quite a while then decided to stop the scan. This
was not possible, except by using Task Manager to end the program.

I didn't really believe what was happening, so I chose a custom scan of just
System Volume Information Folder and the same 'fault' occurred.

Any ideas anyone, preferably Microsoft.

This group is not an "official" MS group, so it's not regularly
visited by MS employees.

It is a peer-to-peer group.

Thank you PA Bear,

A sensible answer to my post, unlike a couple of other sarcastic ones.

I was not aware of the separate newsgroup for Defender.

I could not see it in comprehensive listing (left hand side newsgroup
homewpage)

I will follow your link and have a look.

Many thanks
