Windows Defender on Dell D610

I have a D610 Laptop and have installed Windows defender on it. When I
unplug it the laptop shuts down the internal network card (assuming no cable
is connected). If you resupply power the network card turns back on. Now if
the laptop goes into sleep mode with the network card off, the card will not
turn back on after a resume or then reboot. I must uninstall the driver and
let it reinstall again. Problem started 1 day after loading windows
defender, so I uninstalled it. Did not happen again until I reinstalled
windows defender 1 week later.

Any clue why? Anyone else experiencing this issue? My guess its windows
defender, but could be just coincidence. I've now uninstalled it again and do
not plan on reinstalling.

This is a good observation, Tom. I've got some similar machines in this
office, but I'm not sure I can do that test on them--and mine may be D600,
rather than 610.

With regard to the driver problem when returning from standby--I take it
this worked before you installed Windows Defender?

This doesn't sound like coincidence.

If you can, it might be useful to open the System event log, go to View,
choose Filter, and set the Source dropdown control to "WinDefend" and see
whether there are events in that log that you can relate to this
issue--perhaps ones which name the driver involved. If you find anything
enlightening, using the cut and paste button to paste them back here may be
useful.

Thanks for the reply;

Yes, this worked since January when I got the laptop. It's a nice feature
to minminze drain on the battery, and allows me 3-4 hours run time. I
orinally had the orginal MS Anti Spy loaded with no issues. Only when I did
the update did this problem occur.

I reviewed the event log and find no entries for Windows Defender.

Hmm--there should be a number of entries--lets be sure you are in the right
log, and have selected the right source.

After expanding event viewer, make sure that SYSTEM is highlighted.

Then go to View, choose Filter.

Click the down arrow to the right of Source, and scroll all the way down to
WinDefend

With WinDefend in the source slot, click apply.

Any system with Windows Defender installed should have some entries, I
think.
