Windows Defender keeps updating--SOLUTION

The past two or three days, I kept getting the yellow shield in the taskbar
that there were updates available (Windows Defender). I kept applying the
update (and it showed up as installed), but the yellow shield kept popping up
again and again and again...

Finally found the solution on the Microsoft site. Here's what to do:

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, follow these steps: 1. Remove the current signature
file. To do this, click Start, click Run, type Msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}, and then click OK.
2. Open Windows Defender. To do this, click Start, click Programs, and then
click Windows Defender.
3. Check for new definitions. To do this, click the Help options arrow next
to the Windows Defender Help icon, click About Windows Defender, and then
click Check for Updates.

Hope this helps others that are having the same problem.

Thanks for posting this.

I usually cite this advice as:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915105

Both because it is shorter, and because this gives Microsoft a chance to
change the advice by revising the KB article or providing a different
one--since this one references a different issue, but, in fact, seems to
work for this one.

Bill, thanks for the information. It has helped tremendously. I was having
lots of problems with the defender keep asking me to install the same
download every 20 minutes. Now it is all sorted, thanks friend :)
