Windows Defender issue

Everytime I turn on my computer windows defender pops up saying that it is
turned off. I have opened Windows Defender and it is selected to be turned
on. So I have checked the box that says turn windows defender on but every
time I turn of the computer or restart it is says that windows defender is
turned off. Why is this happening and what can I do?

Hello "tblake",

What Stu said, plus...

Could you supply some information on what your anti-virus is,
other Real Time Protection programs, etc?

3 by 5? That`s better than average - I`ll take that as a positive;) Keep `yer
chin up buddy ` like you always do and KEEP POSTING! Your invaluable input
and advice is what we punters need on here - including Bill S. I sometimes
think he pinches some of your stuff - wink wink. You must have a very
balanced view of life;)

I'm not a demanding person. All I ask from life is a happy home, steady
work, and a personal robot slave to cater to my every whim. ;-)

The most frequent current cause of this behavior is other antimalware
installed on your system. Windows Defender is disabled, with various
degrees of care, by Windows Live OneCare, and current versions of at least
some McAfee and Symantec products.

Sounds like a good woman is in order! I have one - she does dishes. No need
for a dish washer! Robot slave? Think more in terms of a domestic assistant -
just kidding ;)

I've learnt just now that the problem probably is attached to the freely
offered Windows One Care. When I installed it on offer from Microsoft, I was
unaware that it had disabled my Defender( An installed product from DELL).
Now that the subscription of ONE CARE is over I have lost the DEfender
too!!!! God only will save us from this kind of maneuvers of large monoliths
like Microsoft.
