Hello,

do you run a 16 bit program at the same moment you do a scan, because
wowexec is the program that runs 16 bit programs from MS.

Hi Tom,

No I am not running any other programs at the time of the scan. I do have an
open ticker running as well as the Earthlink task bar.

Thanks,

Dean - I believe you are seeing a bug. Can you please update to the 1347
build--this requires a download:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en

Just download and run--it'll upgrade the version in place. after the
install, if your spynet membership was higher than basic, you'll need to
reset that, and you should also check through the Tools, Options settings to
see what's new and whether your old ones have been retained.

Then test to see whether this resolves the issue. If it does not, please
write to Mike Treit of Microsoft:

mtreit @ microsoft.com
(remove the spaces!)

Put the error number in the subject header, and mention that you are running
build 1347 and still seeing this error.

Bill S,

I successfully updated MSAS to Defender version 1347.
However when scanning I still have a problem similar to that mentioned on my
Sony VAIO notebook running the Sony installed version of the OS.. The
problem does not occur on my Sony VAIO desktop running an the same OS as
installed from an MS CD.

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1303.0
Signature Version: 1.14.1396.12

Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)
Service Pack 2

Have done all updates.

Full scan and quick scan stop at the same file everytime:
c:\WINDOWS\system32\Notepad.EXE
(If I exclude Notepad from scanning it will stop elsewher)

Get the same message as deanprop before he udated to 1347:
Windows Defender encountered an error 0x8050800C. An unexpected problem
occurred. Install any available updates, and try to start the program again.
(To check for updates, click start, click all programs, and click Windows
Update.)

Since I'm already at version 1347, I'm clueless on what to do

help categorize what circumstances still give this error:
