Funny, with my MSAS I got once I updated it manually in About:

Spyware Definition Version: 5795 (14-01-2006 00:53:03)

then pressing the Diagnostics button in the same dialog, I got:

Windows OS Version Info: 148
....
Definitions Increment Version: 148/148
Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1348583
Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2983453
Definitions DeterminationData: 773839

I didn't reboot.

Greetings, again, Claudio -

You *may* need to reboot to refresh your update diagnostic data.
May best guess. As I only work with the tools I am provided as an MVP
and the latest information MS provides.

I'm convinced that in this case, the reboot actually completed the update,
in some fashion.

I think a further File, Check for update would have managed the same thing.

I'm not clear whether this "update on startup" actually pulls code from the
Internet, or just corrects problems that can be resolved with files already
downloaded, but somehow not correctly updated.
