Came across same thing and found, in my case, that it was because I was using
Firefox as my default browser and AntiSpy seems to insist on Internet
Explorer to connect to the Web. If you can connect to this forum ,open
antispy and try again ,leaving forum open

I have same problem this morning (12/10/05). I use IE and everything else
seems to be connecting ok. Think Microsoft has a slight problem!

Same on 2 systems at my place - here's the error from the error log when I
manually run the updater:

0::ln 0:Software updates could not contact update server,
IsConnectedToInternet returned false (Error:
1)::gcasSWUpdater:modMain:Main::12/10/2005 10:06:20 AM:XP:1.0.615

Obviously, I have access or did I imagined this reply?

....Seems to be a common problem, I first found it in x64, thought it might be
an issue so rebooted into XP, hey presto, "No connection..." all other apps
operational. All three of my PC's won't update at this this time.

More text 'effects' would help at this point. Instead, I have edited "Don
Grover"'s submission.
Note that ALL of the connection problem reports are for 2005-12-09 or
-12-10; I will examine more of them, for posting OR internal data, but "Don
Grover"'s data, [gathered from Help>About>Diagnostics display] shows that he
last updated -12-09.15:08 [AntiSpyware reported 9/12/2005 3:08:30 PM; his
'Definitions Increment Version: 136/136' is the same as mine reported as
'Definitions Update Date: 08/Dec/2005 21:13:13']. THIS is useful, I think,
in isolating the start time of the problem.

Suggestion: if YOUR data is similar, edit it (copy and paste, even into
NotePad), leaving out other stuff that is THE SAME. IF you have NEW data,
try to report that; that should be emphasis enough by itself.

Thanks everyone. Look forward to a fix from "them" &/or a Subject
indicating NEW info or a work-around.

Peace - Hesch

I also have "Ewido" antispyware installed, the free version ,and it seems to
be working ok .Both spywares were working ok before, and this inability to
download Microsoft antispyware updates is a recent developement.I have had
the microsoft version downloaded since inception and this is the first time
I`ve had a problem with it.........

I don't think I care anymore. It's a pretty sorry utility. Lavasoft's AdAware
is much more thorough...........keith

I am using "Ewido" free edition now for anti spyware until Microsoft gets its act together .No automatic update but otherwise works well.Manual up date works fine.

Judging from the comments on here it is definitely an MS problem which I`m
sure they are aware of but havent recieved any notification from them yet.
Yes I uninstalled and redownloaded and reinstalled the Microsoft Antispyware
Beta 1 with the same no go results on the updates.
seems strange as it has worked well from inception till now? maybe MS will
fix it if we pay a small fee?

Good Evening,

same problem with beta 1 , this morning the program would not update.
This is not just with the last version , as I removed the old and downloaded
an up to date version. The new version will not update either.

Same problem. Broadband connection is working fine. So will wait to see
what solution the design team can come up with.
