Windows can't load locally stored profile

I am the only person who uses this computer. There was only one
user, so the account was the administrative account. What started two days
ago is that when I started up the computer, I received the following two
error messages:

1. Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this
error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If
this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
2.Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a
temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log
off.

So, what basically happens is every time I log on to this account, it's
almost as if Windows XP had just been installed; everything is reset.

I followed directions from Microsoft Support site. Successfully created a
new User Account and profile.
Went to look for my old user name setting and documents to copy to the new
User Profile as instructed and they are not anywhere to be found. Any
ideas??

If you made sure to display hidden and system files:

start/run, type:
control folders
(see radio button for showing hidden and system files)

it's probable that the files are gone past recovery.
