Windows backup - unexpected behaviour

I have used Win98se backup and the scenario described below gave expected
results, unlike XP backup.

I have been trying to create and re-use backup jobs with XP backup. When
jobs are
re-opened, some of the job settings do not overwrite the current job
settings.

Consider creating and saving two backup jobs, say 1 & 2 (below). After
saving #2, the settings would all be for job #2. By opening job #1 again, I
would expect all the settings for job #1 to be applied to XP Backup. They
are not.

1. "Full C", normal backup. Backup files on C:\ to file "F:\Full C", and
2. "Diff E 01" differential backup. Backup files E:\ to file "F:\Diff E 01",

By opening job #1 the files selected for backup revert to C:\ (as
expected) but the backup type remains as for #2 (ie differential),
and the output file remains as for #2 ie "F:\Diff E 01". Only the list of
backup files changes.

A "job" under backup saves only your selections, nothing more
and nothing less. It's in fact a text file that you can open with
notepad.exe.

If you want the selections AND the other parameters saved then
you can do this:
1. Use the wizard to select your files and set the various parameters.
2. Use the Advanced button to schedule the job to be run some time in the
future.
3. Locate the job in the Task Scheduler.
4. Copy its command line into a batch file.
5. Delete the scheduled job.
6. Use that batch file to run your backups.
