Windows and Linux DVD-R incompatibility (Rockridge extensions?)

A while ago, I burned a DVD-R from Linux. I believe I used
cdrecord/dvdrecord and applied the necessary options (-R ?) so that
long file names would be OK.

However, now I'm using the same DVD-R/RW under Windows, and the file
names on Linux-recorded media appear abbreviated and capitalized. Does
XP fail to recognize the ISO 9660 extensions I used, which I believe
was Rockridge?

Can anyone tell me how to fix or work around this problem?

Check into using growiosfs instead, see 'man mkisofs' for the -R and -J
options; growisofs -Z /dev/dvd -R -J /some/files

Thanks for replying. I expressed myself poorly regarding the solution
I'm looking for.

I don't use Linux at this time. I'd like to read these EXISTING
Linux-recorded DVD-Rs from XP, so that full file names are available. I
don't mind re-recording the DVD-R, but first I need to "recover" the
full file names anyway.

IIRC, there should be a file called 'trans.tbl' in each
directory. It contains the translation.

I enabled viewing 'hidden' files, but I don't see anything 'extra'.

Is there a Windows application that will read a Rockridge DVD-R and
perhaps even create a more standard image for burning?

Hi Alex you could give `ISObuster` a try...

You already have an industry-standard in Rockridge, the only problem
is that Billy-bob does not recognise any standards that he has not
bastardised

Your attempt to lock me into Linux with your neither ANSI/ISO standard
nor supported by 90%+ computers "industry standard" has failed, thanks
to third-party Windows software that you said could not exist.

BTW, your repeated calling Microsoft "Mess-Windows", "Billy-bob" and so
on shows your prejudice. It's like as if you are an OS racist.

I'm afraid that from now on, I'll have to ignore your
misinformation-laden propaganda. I'm sick of it.

That was a different Robert.

As was that.

Microsoft do tend to deviate from established standards quite often.
Robert's opinion that this is intentional bastardisation is reasonable and
IMO not propaganda.

You're entitled to your own view, but be aware that many in this group
are skeptical of Microsoft's motives. In any case such discussion is
largely off-topic as this is a technical newsgroup about Linux.
