Hi, all-

I have a Windows 2000 server that I set up in September.

Now my thin client terminals are no longer able to connect and I see
this message in the Event Log Viewer: "The terminal services client has
been disconnected because its temporary license has expired."

Looking at my MS Open License Order Confirmation, I see we purchased ten
"Microsoft Windows 2000 Server CAL English." My software provider is
telling me I actually needed to purchase ten "Terminal Server CALs" in
addition to what we've already purchased (at $80 a pop!)

My questions:
1. Do we really need both licenses?
2. If I purchase the Terminal Server CALs, what is involved in getting
my thin client users up and running again. Is it just a matter of
entering license key codes on the server? Or more than that?

TIA!

.
They are correct. In order to connect to a Terminal
Server (Windows 2000) you need the following:
1) Windows 2000 Server License
2) Windows 2000 Terminal Server License (part of above)
3) Windows 2000 CAL (1 for each client connecting)
4) Windows 2000 Terminal Services CAL (1 for each client
connecting - keep in mind: Windows 2000 Pro, Server, or
Windows XP Pro have this as part of the OS; this is not
needed if these are your only clients).

After you buy them, you activate like the server, and the
server will "hand out the licenses" as needed.
