Winamp and MIDI

D

dsmey

I just noticed that my new version of Winamp (5.093) no longer plays
MIDI. From googling around I gather that in_midi.dll had a buffer
overrun vulnerability.

Anybody know where I can find an old in_mid.dll?

Or, alternately, does anybody have a very light and simple midi player
that they like?

Thanks,
-Dave Smey

1by1 Player works well -- I'm fairly certain it plays midi files,
as there's a .dll in there for it.

It's a non-install app, as well -- nice and light.

Realised after I posted about 1by1 Player that it uses the WinAmp
..dll files as a plug-in, which won't help you.

I've got in_midi.dll, though -- do you want it by e-mail (100KB)?

I don't think that e-mail address is working -- sorry; forgot I'd
cancelled it.

I've sent it to your address as given here; if that's munged and
it doesn't arrive, email me on
harvey DOT van AT ntlworld DOT com.

Hope it gets there.

my Winamp version 5.12 (.exe dated Dec 9 2005) has a in_midi.dll
version 3.09 (dated Dec 9 2005), so I think playing midi is back
in current versions.

I never heard of this missing feature, do you have links to this?
http://www.winamp.com/player/version_history.php does not mention
removal of midi support (or reintroducing).

Regards,
Thorsten

However, thanks for the reminder. I've still got the old version 1.49.
Time for an update.

Windows Media Player 10 can play MIDI. At least it can play *.mid files.
Aren't *.midi files the same?

Mail me the in_midi.dll file also, please. Thanks.

Didn't work -- yahoo didn't recognise your email address, and
bounced it back to me.

If you still want a copy, e-mail me at harvey.van AT ntlworld DOT

Harvey, thanks for letting me know. I recently restored my PC from the clone
backup to a time when seamaid24-graphics was valid. I forgot to change all
my mail/news accounts to the new address, seamaid24-news. That has now been
done. Sorry for the inconvenience. Try seamaid24-news instead.
Seamaid24-graphics is no more.

Gave it another go; hope it gets there this time.

www.oldversion.com - you can download most any older version of Winamp that
you like. I'm using 2.95 without the AOL desktop, and can find no
compelling reason to use one that's newer.

The filename is winamp295_full_noaod.exe and Google will turn up many
download sites.

I have version 5.1 (which I presume is later than 5.093) which plays midi
files ok.

The old WinAmp 2.91 still has/had the in_mid.dll; look here:
http://www.dachboden-wg.de/dlm/download2.php?id=185

It is in German, but if you install and look into the "plugins"
directory, you'll find what you were looking for.

Sorry for being late, i had to find it out myself.
