Change MP3 and midi program association in IE6

For some reason when I play a mp3 in IE6 it sound garbled/detune at
first...IE is using a ms mediaplayer plugin for mp3s and midis.
Midis sound infinitely better using the soundfonts that come with
quicktime.
Also EI opens these types of files very inconsitantly...sometimes they
open in the side bar media center, sometimes full screen in the
browser, and sometimes in a new pop up window browser???
How do I get IE6 to use quicktime or winamp for mp3s and midi files
when launching them from a link in the browser window?

WOW!!! I can't believe that noone can solve this question ....must
mean IE really is proprietary wrt their settings!!! Screw that,,,I
wan't something adjustable...
